Living in Ukraine is becoming more and more unpredictable and dangerous

It has been 5 years since the beginning of the armed conflict. Thousands of people have been killed, hundreds of thousands have been affected by it, and millions of lives have been ruined. The country has been torn apart, people’s souls have been torn apart, and the nation has been bled dry.

On September 27, during his speech in the UNO, Vladimir Zelenskiy, the President of Ukraine, showed the bullet that killed a world-famous Ukrainian opera singer during this war. The next day, five children from Lugansk found a hand grenade buried into the ground and caused an explosion. Four boys and one girl, aged 6 to 13, were injured severely and became disabled. This war has already taken the lives of more than 100 children aged 12 months to 17 years.

However, all the attempts of the new Ukrainian government to find a peaceful settlement to the conflict faces active resistance from the representatives of the old government and neo-Nazi forces. In spite of the power change in Ukraine, neo-Nazis are still active. They are well-armed and represent a serious threat even for the President.  As soon as the President took several indecisive steps towards the peace process, the well-organized and aggressive minority immediately opposed them. They are capable of much, but their main goal is to disrupt the peace process. Their intention is to continue with this war.

On October 14, there was a gathering of radical right-wing forces that oppose the peace initiatives of the President. The gathering was quite impressive. The nationalists wanted to demonstrate that in case of need, they can gather enough supporter.   They succeeded.

The fears and dangers are multiplied with the economical collapse. The majority of enterprises have closed down, small businesses have been ruined due to extreme taxation policies. People have lost their jobs and savings. Prices increase rapidly, and the government cannot control inflation.

The contract with Russia regarding natural gas supply is not finalised yet. Winter is coming! The population in Ukraine is preparing for high gas prices that only the wealthiest will be able to afford. Several regions have already had their gas supply terminated. Regular Ukrainians are extremely apprehensive about the future. Millions of Ukrainians have already left for Europe, ready to undertake any tough and dirty jobs just to survive.  Poor Jewish people have only one way out of this unpredictable and dangerous situation, and it is to make  their way home to the Promised Land.  We have a long list of requests for support. We have picked out the most needy and those who have the least social privileges: retirees and a family with children.

Our thanks to all the donors who have made this support possible.
