The Barchuks family
Love and mutual understanding have always been a key element in this loving family. They owned a small restaurant in the town of Ilkivka, Vinnytsa region. Dmitriy was the chief manager, his wife Marina did the accounting, and their elder son Maksim, when on school holidays, had the knack for surprising visitors with unusual and delicious treats.
The COVID-19 pandemic ruined the small family business in a wink of an eye. The family has decided to make Aliyah because running a small business in Ukraine now is equal to slow suicide. It even makes no sense to try to sell the little restaurant that is located in a small town. Nobody wants to purchase an unwinnable enterprise.
When closing the restaurant down, Dmitriy and Marina had to pay enormous fees to the state, and this last expense ate away all their savings. What is more, the Embassy of Israel in Ukraine had a very long break due to the quarantine, they had to wait ages to receive their visas, while the funds were running lower and lower.
None of the family members feels desperate, however. Even little Sofia does not give up. They all hope for a better life in the Promised Land. Faith and love, again, save this family in the tough situation.
