Why does a Ukrainian Jew need financial support if they are given free flights by the Jewish Agency?

The majority of people we help are impoverished refugees from Eastern Ukraine as well as other vulnerable people. Law demands proof of their Jewish origin by providing many original documents and certificates – eg. Birth, Marriage, Divorce certificates as well as children’s birth certificates, work record card, Ukrainian personal tax number, written notice of parents, written notice of a spouse. Police Clearance Certificate, Certificate confirming Jewish origin, Passport, other special services, transportation to Israeli Embassy.

The cost is between £222 and £416 per person, depending on what documents are required. Although Aliyah requests are on the increase, these figures are extremely high for Ukrainians.

100% of all donations we receive go to the Charity People Who Care in the Ukraine, who receive appeals for help from the needy. They have agents in all areas to help individuals with emergency aid, transport to the main cities and documentation. Without our support, many would not be able to find the help they need.
